Dealing With Food Addictions
Foods Can Be As Addictive As Drugs.
Did you know that today’s processed foods rich with sugar and fat activate the same pleasure centers of the brain as highly addictive drugs? The food industry has spent billions of dollars to create foods that are addictive and cause you to eat more of them. Just as those individuals that are susceptible to becoming drug and alcohol addicts, food addicts have the same susceptibility.
In Binge Eating Disorder or BED, the brain becomes used to releasing endorphins in response to eating large amounts of food in one sitting very rapidly. By consuming large quantities of food at once, the brain releases the reward neurotransmitters Dopamine and Serotonin in large amounts as if you were taking cocaine, heroin, or methamphetamine. |
Binge Eating Disorder happens when you develop an uncontrollable craving for excess food that causes you to ingest large amount of calories in one sitting which activate pleasure endorphins and dopamine, causing a mind altering experience and a high that drug and alcohol addicts are familiar with.
When these uncontrollable cravings take over, the food addict’s life begins to deteriorate in all aspects: physical, emotional and social. If you find yourself consuming massive amounts of calories in a single sitting, you may have Binge Eating Disorder. If you notice any symptoms described above, you may be a food addict and need to seek help. Binge Eating disorder may indicate that you may have an underlying psychiatric disorder, such as Major Depression or Anxiety Disorder that can be treated to help improve your odds of successful treatment of your BED. |
Physical Symptoms of Food AddictionFood addiction affects addicts who are obese and have tried several weight loss solutions such as diets, drugs, and surgery but have not succeeded in a permanent solution. Some food addicts try to control their physical weight by using extreme measures as exercising, purging, vomiting or lax.

Emotional Symptoms of Food AddictionAre you feeling depressed, hopeless, sad or ashamed about your eating or your weight? Food addicts become more severe, intense, or unreasonable when eating the addictive substances. Unfortunately, the emotional life of a food addict deteriorates into despair, depression, or thoughts of suicide.

Social Symptoms of Food AddictionFood addicts hide their eating because they are ashamed. They have a difficult time socializing and making eye contract because they are always concerned about being noticed and can help thinking about the food rather than enjoying
